As probably the most widely used sanding abrasive, you can use aluminum oxide for most wood working projects. Silicon Carbide is black and is mostly used for cutting stone, tile, and glass. The grits on silicon carbide are finer than the ones on the aluminum oxide. Our sanding belts can be used for grinding and polishing projects. Aluminum Oxide belts with an open coat provide more air flow meaning that they can be used on softer woods while closed coat belts are better for metal and harder woods.
